About MAGA MAGA tries to hold a tournament type format about once a month, March through October. Tournaments are conducted in accordance to the USGA rules of golf for members and guests. Membership in the Middletown Area Golf Association is open to anyone with an established USGA handicap index. Anyone not having a USGA handicap index may still be a member as long as the index is established before the May tournament. A first time player is limited to a maximum handicap of 20 strokes. A "MAGA Handicap Index" is tracked for each member using a formula similar to that of the USGA but is tracked for each member using a formula similar to that of the USGA but only includes MAGA tournament scores. A MAGA tournament handicap will be calculated using the lower of the two indexes (i.e., the USGA index or the MAGA index). A member may sponsor a guest for any tournament. A guest is allow to play in only one tournament per year and should complete a Membership Form. Past MAGA members should not play as guests unless they have moved from the area. No guests are allowed to play in the last tournament of the year. Tournament formats vary. Most allow two people to sign-up and play together. Foursome are decided by a blind draw but some 'juggling' is done to ensure the same foursome isn't repeated for multiple tournaments.
