MAGA

October
2014

This newsletter is to start out in a sad note with the reporting of one of our MAGA members, Greg Emerson 61, passing away on Friday September 12, 2014. For more than 45 years many of us have known and been friends with Greg. Recently he was diagnosed with lung cancer and had just started taking chemo to try and slow down the illness. Unfortunately it appeared he suffered a heart attack while driving and subsequently resulted in a car wreck. This goes to show that life may end at any time and we should live everyday like it is our last. Take the time to tell someone how you feel about them. As we age this could happen to any of us. May our thoughts and prayers be with Greg’s family in this difficult time. He will be missed by all.

Starting next year if you do not have a paid USGA by the end of May your handicap will be 0. If this is a 4 man event the other 2 will not be penalized for that tournament.

This also brings in the question of what is going to happen with the people who play at Weatherwax Golf not knowing if this course will be there next year.

The September tourneys were played at Shaker Run & Armco Park. The turnout for both were down a little for some reason with only 20 playing Saturday and 17 playing Sunday. Saturdays course was as bad as any we played this year. Greens were aerated and bumpy and the sand traps were wet and filled with mud and grooves with very little sand. suggested by some of our members and then they decided not to play. It is still amazing to me why more players don’t compete at Armco Park. That course was in the best shape and had the best greens of any course we played this year. No guests in October for the last tournament.
