MAGA

July
2009

Before giving the results from the past tournaments I would like to express our deepest sympathy to the Barger Family who lost a family member and MAGA participant in Mike Fites who passed away after a fight with a brain tumor. Our prayers and thoughts go out to the family of Mike Fites.

The 4th  & 5th tournaments of the year was played on a beautiful Saturday and Sunday at Hueston Woods and Weatherwax respectively. There were 40 players at Hueston Woods and 23 players at Weatherwax.

This weekend we were joined by 2 guests, one who moved away a few years back and his son-in-law. The guests were Farmer Gross from Florida and Tony Bonnett from Spain. This is the real meaning of guests in the MAGA, not the past member who wants to play once a year and not pay membership fees.

As you can see there was a 3 way tie for first place on Sunday. Although one of my partners missed a 3” putt which cost him a bigger cut of prize money. This 3” putt cost him sole possession of first in the team, sole possession of second in the low net and a share of the two day total prize money. This guys name was Richard May.

This is why we are to hole out all putts and finish every hole. There is no such thing as a gimmee. If it is close enough to give you shouldn’t have any trouble putting it in the hole.

Sundays round was complicated with a rule on the 18th hole that said out of bounds was across any paved road. This was almost misplayed by at least 4 people myself included. Not knowing this rule I eliminated my team from possible winnings. We would have tied for 5th place. This rule has been misplayed for years past.
