The 2009 MAGA Season has started with a loss of one of the founding fathers of MAGA, Bill Daley. Along with Don Horn, Jerry Horn, Chuck McChesney and Karl Heffner among others, started the MAGA group more than 25 years ago. The vision was to enable golfers to play in more tournament type formats other than the Middletown City Tournament. Bill along with others enabled this to happen. Once there were more than 100 players at selected tournaments. Now the number is closer to 40 or so per tournament. For those who new Bill he had the most unique short putting stroke that was painful to watch. Thus he obtained the nickname “Jabber”. Speaking on behalf of MAGA we would like to wish our condolences to his family, his wife Linda and his children Michelle, Eric, Nick and Keeton. Eric, Nick and his brother Dennis have participated in MAGA in the past. He will be missed by everyone that was touched by his presence.

Also Jim Drury who played with a variety of different partners last year is looking for a person who would like to team with him and play in all of the tournaments for 2009. If interested contact Russ Yenser.

We will be adding two new courses from last year. The new courses will be Beavercreek and the Vineyards. The first tournament of the year will be Stonelick Hills.  Below is a list of the 2009 schedule and formats. Again this year prizes will be awarded for the accumulated totals for Money Winners, Net Points and Gross Points. All tournaments will count in tabulating the year end totals. The 1st tournament for the 2009 season will be a 4 Man All Balls with full handicap. There will be individual closest to the pins on all par 3’s. Tee times will start around 9:00 AM. The price of this tournament will be $55. The entry deadline is something that needs to be met for all tournaments this year. Most of the courses require 7 to 10 days in advance notice on how many players are participating. This tournament deadline is March 18th . Entry fees and monies must be received by this day. Note that all tournament deadlines are Wednesday Night 10 days in advance of the tournaments. When arriving at the course for the tournament please come and check in so we know everyone is present. USGA handicaps must be paid for 2009 before the May tournament. Also when entering your first tournament you must pay your membership fee. This fee can be paid anytime before the first tournament if you want too. When sending in your membership application, fill in all of the blanks so the board can update any changes from last years information. Also remember if you sign up for internet access, which includes tee times, newsletters and entries your membership fee is $20. If not your membership fee will be $25 and all paperwork will be mailed to you. We are trying to encourage internet mailing to eliminate some of the time factor in getting results and to encourage earlier entries. Also try to persuade others into joining MAGA to boost the number of players. For every new member a $5 rebate will be given to the current member who persuaded the person to join and play.  If a person has been a member in the past, he is not a guest. This applies to people who have moved out of state and are back visiting or a brand new player who has never played in the MAGA.
