MAGA

The 5th tournament of the year ended at a course that was chewed up due to the building of condominiums. The results are below.

From the members of MAGA we would like to wish George Gross best wishes and hope he continues to improve. George suffered a heart attack before the Hueston Woods Tourney and we wish him the best.

The deadline for the Heatherwoode Tournament will be Wednesday August 9th . Entry fee for this tourney is $27 per man which includes greens fee, cart, range balls and prize fund. The tee times will start around 1:00 PM.

The Heatherwoode Tourney will be a modified Rider Cup format. In this format Player A will tee off on all the odd holes and Player B will tee off on all the even holes. After teeing off teams will alternate shots until the hole is completed. This order must be determined on the first tee. Every player will each hit on two of the four par 3’s for the closest to the pin prizes. If you must take a penalty shot this does not count in your rotation. So if your first player hits in the water or out of bounds, the second player must tee up or play the next shot with the team hitting their third shot. This format will be crowded because the course wants us to play as foursomes. This will mean there will be eight players starting on each hole.

Because of the format you must have your own twosome because I can’t guarantee I will be able to pair any singles. If you sign up as a single and there is someone to pair you with I will, but if there are no other singles you will not be able to play. Also if

there are three singles who sign up, the first two paid players will be entered together.

The second tournament for the month of August will be played at Beavercreek on  August 20th with tee times starting around 10:00 AM.

The format for this tourney is a two man low ball for the first part and a two man high ball for the second part. More money will be paid to the low ball winners. You will still play your own shots like normal. You can play in either or both of these tourneys. Sign up as a twosome and tee pairings will be determined by a blind draw. The cost of this tourney is $58 which includes golf, cart and prizes. The entry deadline for this tourney is also August 9th. Hopefully we will continue to have about 48 players per tourney like we did at Kings Island.

Remember you can’t play a second tourney as a guest, you must join MAGA. Also both of these tourneys will include handicaps like usual. In the Heatherwoode Tourney your handicap will be the total of the two golfers divided by 2 since we are playing only one ball.

In the other tournament the low ball will be our normal two man best ball for the first part. The second part will be a two man, with the team taking there high score. The winner of the second part of this tourney will be the team that has the lowest net score but remember you have to use the teams highest score.

We do have two new golfers for the Beavercreek tourney, Dan Price and Tim Smiley. We would like to welcome them and hope more new members continue to join.
